U.S. Companies with the Most Number of Part-time Tech Job Listings
As per the research conducted by EY and Timewise in 2017, a flexible working marketplace, 87% of full-time employees in the UK would prefer flexible working hours. The percentage increases to 92% for millennials, according to the same study. This is a general tendency among workers and it resonates with majority employees of the employees across the globe.
The straightforward reasoning is that requests for smartly managed working hours will continue to increase. Employers must start developing implementable solutions shortly. Many, including blue-chip companies, are not able to navigate swiftly in the changing job market if we look at the cases of people resigning because of rigid working hours. However, this is not all about the worker’s state of mind and retention; there have instances in which we can see a negative correlation between flexible work time and the company’s performance.
For instance, Morgan Stanley unveiled that companies that don’t have flexible working have fallen behind in the MSCI World index between November 2011 and October 2016. Moreover, the gap has continuously increased over the five years.
But, this study, just like other reports examining gender balance, directs us to another critical issue: although the correlation is visible, papers focusing on the causes have yet to appear practically.
Research papers sighting the business case would aid in convincing businesses to change their path. Employers would be gradually more inclined towards thinking seriously realignment of jobs to facilitate flexible job timing. Similarly, employees will be forced to think that moving into a part-time job leads to a dead-end career.
Part-Time Tech Jobs:
These are jobs where people can work remotely. This is also called a remote job. A remote job has certain work hours a week where the candidate must clock in a minimum of 30 hours a week. The field or the type of job may be customer service or information technology. Candidates that are taken by companies as part-time can work from home or remotely.
Part-time positions are available in many positions in the organizations as well. The job search process for the same is easy as well. Job alerts and job search options increase when the candidate actively searches for the role daily.
Job roles at a higher level are still intrinsically considered as full-time. Simply coming to the job every day and remaining in post for set hours a week further fuels stubborn legacy of old work practices. The silver lining is that Women and advocacy groups have started opposing this type of work culture — they are the ones who are worst affected by the existing system and general assumptions when it comes to family care. A larger number of open discussions — for example, parental leave processes — would propel the whole agenda of a better future of work.
Companies’ bottom lines are fully dependent on their capacity to attract and retain the best and smartest employees. The addition of more flexibility like work from home will help. In the shorter term, it would help mitigate the gender disparity and in the larger time frame, it’ll help businesses adapt to the changes in the society. Irrespective of whether companies are working in the advanced tech sector or not, this is something each company should aim for.
