Labor Market Insight Report (2026): Hybrid Is the Flexible Default, Remote Is the Exception

Hybrid and remote work trends 2026 data from JobsPikr show that flexible work is mostly an occupation question, not a company policy question.
Hybrid-Remote-Work-Trends-2026

The debate about flexible work is usually framed as a company policy question. The posting data suggests it is mostly an occupation question. JobsPikr analyzed 43 million deduplicated job postings across the United States, United Kingdom, India, Australia and Canada, published between 27 June and 25 September 2026. The findings show that the work arrangement an employer advertises varies far more by role than by industry, seniority or country.

Key Findings at a Glance

  • 78% of US job postings are on-site. Hybrid is 17%, and remote is 5%.
  • 3.5× as many US postings offer hybrid as offer fully remote work.
  • 81% of US marketing manager postings are flexible, compared with under 1% for housekeeping cleaners.
  • 32% of UK postings are hybrid, close to double the US rate.

1. Hybrid vs Remote Work by Country: The UK and India Lead

What separates the markets is hybrid, not remote. Fully remote work sits between 2% and 8% everywhere, while hybrid ranges from 15% in Canada to 35% in India.

Hybrid Outnumbers Remote in Every Market

US hybrid postings outnumber fully remote postings by roughly three and a half to one. In the UK, the ratio is about five to one, and in Australia it is ten to one.

2. Flexibility by Seniority: Half of Executive Roles Offer It

Flexibility climbs steeply with seniority.

Seniority (US)On SiteHybridRemoteFlexible SharePostings
Executive Level49.6%43.1%7.3%50.4%1,314,980
Mid Level60.2%32.5%7.3%39.8%10,207,200
Entry Level90.6%6.0%3.4%9.4%17,234,161

The step between entry and mid-level is the largest, and it is almost entirely hybrid: remote rises only from 3% to 7%.

3. Remote and Hybrid Jobs by Occupation: The Role Decides

Occupation separates work arrangements more sharply than any other cut.

For several professional roles, on-site is now the minority arrangement. For marketing managers and computer and information systems managers, about one in five postings is on-site, against roughly two-thirds hybrid.

Remote Concentrates in a Few Roles

Remote follows a different pattern from hybrid. Human resources specialists, the O*NET category that includes recruiters, have the highest remote share among the 40 largest US occupations at 27%, followed by technical sales representatives at 21%.

4. Hybrid and Remote Work by Industry: Finance Leans Hybrid, Tech Leans Remote

Financial services has the highest hybrid share of any large US industry at 45% of postings, but a remote share of just 8%. Software development and IT services employers post less hybrid, at around 35%, but roughly twice the remote share at 14% to 15%. The two sectors are similarly flexible overall; they differ in the form that flexibility takes.

5. Remote Work Salary Data: Flexible Roles Advertise More

Among US postings that quote an annual salary, the median hybrid role advertises $140,000 and the median remote role $137,800, against $100,000 for on-site roles. Remote has the longest top end, with the 90th percentile remote posting at $264,000.

A Job Mix Gap, Not a Flexibility Premium

The pay gap is real in the market, but it reflects which jobs are flexible. Among US postings that state pay with a pay period, 68% of on-site postings quote an hourly rate, against 15% of hybrid postings.

Flexible Roles State Pay More Often

Roughly 70% of US hybrid postings and 67% of remote postings include a salary, compared with 62% of on-site postings. Nearly two-thirds of all US postings now disclose pay, partly driven by pay transparency laws in several large US states.

6. What This Means for Workforce and Compensation Teams

Averages hide the decision. The benchmark that matters is the posting norm for that occupation, in that market.

  • Benchmark arrangement by occupation: Where fewer than a quarter of market postings for a role are on-site, an on-site requirement places your posting in the minority.
  • Plan globally, set locally: Hybrid is close to twice as common in UK and Indian postings as in US postings. A single global policy will read as generous in one market and restrictive in another. See Location Strategy Intelligence.
  • Compare pay within the role: Benchmark hybrid and remote pay bands against the same occupation, seniority, and location using a salary benchmarking tool, not against the flexible work market in general.

Conclusion: Flexibility Is an Occupation Decision

Hybrid is the flexible default in every market studied, and fully remote work remains the exception. The strongest predictor of whether a posting offers flexibility is the role itself. Teams that benchmark work arrangement and pay by occupation and market, rather than by industry or national averages, will set policies that match what candidates actually see.

Use JobsPikr to benchmark your roles against the market by occupation, location, industry and employer, with posting-level data refreshed daily from more than 70,000 sources in over 100 countries.
